It’s a Parody, Silly

I recently read a review of my latest single title: LOVE TAKES TIME-and the reader, in her opinion, thought I lacked imagination because she correctly stated the storyline resembled the romantic classic, Sabrina. When I first read it, I laughed. Does this reader think that parodies are only reserved for movies and rap remixes? Did she really think I was trying to pass off the theme as totally my own? In the world of romances, how many Cinderella themes have we read? Romeo and Juliet? Christmas Carol? Secret Babies? Any number of Jane Austin books?
LOVE TAKES TIME was meant to be a parody. From time to time, I do those as a fun re-mix. Out of my near 40 releases, I certainly don’t do it all the time. So let me be clear, I’m not trying to pass off LOVE TAKES TIME as anything other than light and fun parody—mixed with more than a few surprises. So enjoy!

  1. I love the response. I mean any true reader can understand that from time to time stories, movies and life mimic one another. Therefore, lay off my girl she has been doing an exceptional job with her writings and I have enjoyed most of them. Looking forward to many more.

  2. I agree. Somethings are just obvious and she played herself for even saying that.

  4. I read that review when it first posted and I didn’t say anything or comment because Amazon seems to be the new place for Haters to come out and play. I think all romance books are the same, long lost child, misunderstanding, etc. For me the whole object is to make the readers love the story, as a reader I loved the story, and it did remind me of a romantic comedy, but so did a lot of your other books. I really feel like, people should get over this. Nothing is new under the sun. So Adrianne keep doing you.
    much love,and always respect

  5. Girl, It is still a great book. I felt the same thing when you first started talking about Alyssa’s story and I was lovin it. I wanted a AA “Sabrina” type story, because I know you would knock it out of the park and nobody can do a parody the way you do it!!! So girl you know we got your back. Some reviewers really, Im really need to “get a grip”.

  6. I think the reviewer wanted to nitpick. I haven’t read the book yet, but I must say that very popular romance author Christina Dodd lifted the plot of “Sabrina” practically plot-turn by plot-turn (though with her own twist, and she is a god writer), and no reviewer had any problem with that. Goes to show that reviews should be taken with a grain of salt by both readers and writers.

  7. Gee, as if to say someone can’t do a spin on a well-loved subject and come up with a winner, which is exactly what I think of Love Takes Time. Whoever did the review must not read many other books that have the similar plots, just different writers and different routes each writer takes to get to the ending.

Give me some fabulously retold Juliet/Romeo, Secret Baby, whatever and I will take it and enjoy it, like I always do. Just because one person has done it doesn’t mean it’s immediately set in stone and nobody can mess with the formula, or, miracle of miracles, take that formula, add their own flair, and make the outcome even better.

Speaking of LTT, I do hope the last Hinton boy, Q can finally find a girl who will make him want to be a better man and stop his skirt-chasing playboy ways.

  8. Hi Adrienne, I just ordered my book because school, test, finals and just want you to know I have quite a few (more like every one) of your books. I love your writing and for the reviewer just need to get a clue. Every story is a off-set of some other story. For those that are original (that’s great) but when the story has been told its refreshing when someone else has a different spin on it. Keep up the great work and let it speak for it self.
