No, these heifers didn’t

Seems the heifers over at Glamour have a problem with African American hair-styles. Apparently the only way to be successful in the office place is to imitate white women. Whatever. Here’s what’s being reported:
At a recent lawyer’s luncheon at Cleary Gottlieb
Steen & Hamilton, an invited expert speaker from Glamour magazine presented a slide show on the Do’s & Don’t of Corporate Fashion. The first slide: natural African
American hair such as afros and dreadlocks are a
corporate DON’T! Quote:
Natural hair is a real no-no, announced the Glamour
editor to the 40 or so lawyers in the room. As for dreadlocks: How truly dreadful! The style maven said it was “shocking” that some people still think it”appropriate” to wear those hairstyles at the office. “No offense,” she sniffed, but those “political” hairstyles really have to go.
Bitch, please.

Honestly, I’m not surprised.

I’m not surprised either. I don’t read this magazine and I never will.

I read this article around the net and my general feeling is no one is going take this seriously.

To say to black people that natural-textured hair is inapproriate or unsuitable for professional work environments is as insensitive as telling a disabled person that wheelchairs have no place in the office.
Regarding dreadlocks, I remember a time when they were a symbol of the Rastafarian religion. Somehow, over the last 20 years or so, they became a fashion statement. I’m not a member of this religion, but if I were, I probably wouldn’t be too happy to see a symbol of my lifestyle and worship habits turned into a fashion trend . . .

Hell! what will they think of next. I love my natural hair.
