Mushy Monday presents: Love Jones

love

What do you do after love at first sight? That is the question posed in this 1997 flick. Larenz Tate (with his short self) and Nia Long have a great chemistry on this film. For me, the REAL question this film ask is whether there is such a thing of giving too much too soon for a relationship that you want to last. Remember this couple made out on the first date and there is a question to where to go from there. How many of you ladies been in this situation? Ever slept with someone on the first date and regretted it? I have to admit as mush as I like this movie, I liked the soundtrack better. What are your thoughts?

  1. The soundtrack was banging! I think one of the reasons why I still love this movie so much, is because I love romantic comedies/chick flicks. And I would go to the movies and never see black folks in those kinds of films. It had been a lot of years since Claudine (another banging soundtrack by the way) and Mahogany . I remember leaving the theatre after watching Love Jones thinking “that’s it, that’s what I’ve been missing.” We still don’t have enough Black cast romantic comedies or romance themed movies. So, until we get more, Love Jones will always be in my top ten.

  2. I loved this movie, but you’re right the soundtrack was off the hook. As for whether I’ve got caught up and slept with someone on the first date, well, er, maybe. Anyway, you’re right there is such a thing as too much too soon.
